It all begins with an idea.
I have always loved arts and crafts. As a child, I spent a lot of time outside collecting rocks, making “potions” out of plants and bugs, and little miniature mud towns.
Fast forward 27 years later and I still find joy in all of those activities.
My fascination and love for terrariums was re-awakened when I saw a video of a creator making a terrarium in a glass lamp (lamparium).
After realizing there was actually a market for bioactive terrariums, I went to my local thrift store and bought every glass container I could find. I harvested moss from my family’s farm property and purchased some small plants that do well in high humidity environments. I purchased springtails and isopods from a local reptile supply store and I began mass producing terrariums with the intent to sell them for an affordable price at my neighborhood’s Maker’s Markets.
Much to my surprise, I sold over two dozen terrariums!
While it is my dream to eventually do this full-time, I am currently a high school English teacher. During the terrarium making parties and classes, I get to put my teaching skills to work as I review the steps to make and care for these fascinating little ecosystems.
